LOCATION & POSITION INFORMATION:

There is no test score required for this vacancy. There are two openings for this position. This is a part-time position located at the Slidell Welcome Center in Slidell, LA. Applicants applying to this announcement should be aware that this is a part-time WAE (when actually employed) position without benefits, and shall not exceed 1245 hours in a 12-month period.

Provides visitor information to the traveling public, answers questions, provides directions, information not always limited to tourism information. Computer skills essential. Friendly, outgoing, knowledgeable of Louisiana cultures, customs, and tourism assets important but not critical. At least one (FTE) year of customer service required. Maximum 24 hours per week. Must be willing to work designated weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of experience in tourism information work, public relations, customer service, or teaching.

SUBSTITUTIONS:
College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.

NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

To provide information to tourists and to perform incidental clerical and custodial functions.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Close from a Tourism Supervisor or higher level staff.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Tourism Information Counselor 2 by the degree of supervision received and the absence of experienced level duties.

Welcomes tourists and determines their travel interests and needs.

Provides information on localities, museums, parks, events, and other attractions to visit.

Assists travelers with hotel reservations and weather reports from the Internet.

Provides directions, shortest routes or scenic routes.

Distributes brochures and maps.

Answers questions from visitors, by phone and mail, regarding the state, its history and its culture.

Conducts research by reading industry publications, visiting travel websites and consulting with others to keep abreast of upcoming events and to broaden knowledge of the state.

Participates in educational study tours.

Keeps daily records or files; stocks brochure racks; orders supplies/brochures; performs other clerical duties.

Attains CPR certification and becomes re-certified annually.
